DULCE - A BEAUTIFUL BELGIAN MALINOIS WITH AN EXTRAORDINARILY SWEET HEART! Belgian Malinois - Female (Spayed) - 2 Years Old - 60 lbs. Animal ID: IEPA-A-19644. Location: Friends of Upland Animal Shelter, Upland, California. Intake Date: August 19, 2026. Dulce, Dulce, Dulce... what a perfect name for this extraordinary girl! The first thing you'll notice about Dulce is her breathtaking beauty. With her graceful movements, athletic build, and intelligent, watchful eyes, she is a magnificent example of the Belgian Malinois breed. But spend a little time with her, and you'll discover something even more beautiful: her incredibly affectionate heart. Belgian Malinois are famous for their intelligence, athleticism, and extraordinary work ethic. Dulce certainly possesses those qualities, but she also has a wonderfully sweet and affectionate personality that makes her truly special. In the play yard, while many Malinois would be running, chasing balls, and looking for their next activity, Dulce often has a different idea. She would rather come sit beside you, enjoy gentle petting, roll over for belly rubs, or climb into your lap as though 60 pounds of Belgian Malinois were the perfect size for cuddling! And fetch? Well, perhaps another day. She's busy being loved! Dulce is intelligent, eager to learn, and very treat-motivated. She knows basic commands, including sit and down, and is even learning to roll over. She enjoys interacting with her human companions, and her affectionate, sociable nature has made her a volunteer favorite. BUT TAKE DULCE FOR A WALK, AND WATCH HER TRANSFORM! Our affectionate cuddle companion suddenly becomes an alert, focused, and purposeful Belgian Malinois. Her working-dog instincts come alive as she attentively observes her surroundings. She walks nicely on leash, especially with a harness, and seems to take her responsibility for monitoring the neighborhood very seriously. And squirrels? Let's just say Dulce considers them highly suspicious individuals requiring immediate investigation! Her strong prey drive means her handler must remain attentive, but she can generally be redirected and continue enjoying her walk. This beautiful balance is what makes Dulce so special: a calm, loving companion who also possesses the intelligence, athleticism, and alertness of a remarkable working breed. WHAT KIND OF HOME WOULD BE BEST FOR DULCE? Dulce deserves a loving, active home with someone who understands and appreciates the Belgian Malinois breed. Experience with intelligent, high-drive working dogs is preferred. Single-dog home: Dulce has demonstrated that she can walk calmly alongside other dogs during structured walks without displaying reactivity. However, during a play-yard introduction, she became tense and fixated on another dog and attempted to bite when that dog initiated play. For everyone's safety, we recommend that Dulce be the only dog in her home. Off-leash interactions with other dogs should be avoided unless her compatibility has been professionally evaluated. No cats: Dulce has a high prey drive and is not suitable for a home with cats. Children: Ages 13 and older. Toys: Dulce has shown resource guarding involving toys, so appropriate management and positive-reinforcement training are recommended. Activity: Dulce would benefit from regular walks, mental enrichment, continued training, and opportunities to use her wonderful intelligence. And, of course, plenty of affection! DULCE IS READY TO GIVE SOMEONE HER HEART. Dulce is already a wonderful dog. With a patient, committed person who understands her needs and appreciates her unique personality, she has the potential to become an extraordinary lifelong companion. She doesn't need to be the most playful dog at the dog park. She doesn't need to be everyone's dog. She just needs someone who sees the beautiful individual she truly is: intelligent, loyal, affectionate, athletic, and wonderfully sweet. Someone who will enjoy her gentle cuddles, admire her remarkable intelligence, accompany her on adventures, and give her the security of a loving forever home. Dulce has so much love to give. All she needs is someone to share it with. Come meet Dulce at Friends of Upland Animal Shelter in Upland, California. Animal ID: IEPA-A-19644. Beautiful on the outside. Even sweeter on the inside.
