About Billy

German Shepherd / Dutch Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

٠ NOW EUTH LISTED FOR 8AM 11/4'%BC%8F Available for adoption, foster or rescue. sBILLY is URGENT at the South LA Shelter and having a very hard time with shelter life. Billy is a smart, active, eager Shepherd who is stressed, confused, and frustrated by so much kennel confinement. Billy has only been at the shelter since 9/9 and, sadly, spent 3 weeks of that time in kennel isolation due to an upper respiratory infection. Billy is URGENT because he is struggling with kennel stress which has manifested in anxious, jumpy & mouthy behavior. He has jumped up and nipped/grabbed at clothing. While non-malicious, this behavior is considered a handling concern and our friend Billy needs out of the shelter environment as soon as possible. Dogs at SLA do not receive daily enrichment outings. It's all too common for dogs to spend days, if not weeks, never stepping out of their cages. During the 52 days Billy has been at the shelter, he has only enjoyed 14 outings from his kennel. As one might imagine, when Billy is allowed out, he is often anxious, jumpy and mouthy in his excitement. This is a dog who desperately needs more activity and engagement than he is receiving at the shelter. In playgroup, playgroup staff have noted that Billy 'seems to be struggling w/environmental stress.' He gave timid greetings, kept to himself, and started over-correcting dogs in his early playgroup sessions. Billy has mingled at times but other times (as his length of stay increased), he has been anxious, argumentative, assertive and less tolerant of males during shelter playgroup. He is considered affiliative with playgroup handlers and has been loving & affectionate with volunteers. This is a good boy who needs a responsible owner and supportive home environment where Billy can decompress and begin to thrive. Please help Billy.
