Heidi is a very sweet and generally timid intact female GSD who showed up to our home while it was under construction. When she first arrived, she seemed to have been severely neglected and abused as she was extremely skittish around humans and was starving. We have been working with her for several weeks and she has come a long way - she loves pets, treats, curiously observing her people, and would adore being a house dog for a loving family. Unfortunately, Heidi does not get along with our other animals and she aggressively resource guards food and affection. For full disclosure, she recently bit one of our other dogs when competing for food. Because of this, we are unable to keep her, but we're extremely reluctant to surrender her to a shelter She is a great dog and has always been gentle and sweet to humans, including children. She is generally calm and sweet. She loves learning and observing humans. While she is sometimes slow to warm up and build trust, once she does she loves pets, calmly sitting by her humans, and treats. She is smart, inquisitive, doesn't bark, and can be trusted to be confined to a garage overnight without making messes or chewing. But she needs to be an only dog for a loving and safe family. While she has been kept largely outdoors for the past few months, and confined to a garage overnight, we think she would love nothing more than to be a house dog for an one-dog family. She is an amazing animal who deserves a special home and, other than aggression towards other dogs in her territory, she has not shown any other problem behaviors. Please help us find a loving home for her.
