MEET LUNA - A BEAUTIFUL GERMAN SHEPHERD STILL WAITING FOR HER FOREVER HOME - Waco, Texas area Purebred German Shepherd Dog 3-4 years old Sometimes a dog doesn't need someone to simply save her. She needs someone willing to show her that she's finally safe. Luna came into our lives in February 2026 after we saw a desperate Facebook post asking for help. We were told her owner had given his ex-wife seven days to find Luna another home before he planned to have her euthanized for being a nuisance. We found the post around 10 PM on the final night. We couldn't leave her there. So Luna came into our home as an emergency foster while we searched for the permanent family she deserved. WHO IS LUNA? -Luna is sweet, sensitive, intelligent, inquisitive, and very much a creature of habit. Once she learns her environment and routine, she settles in. -She's also mastered the German Shepherd art of being a professional couch potato. She loves couches, beds, blankets, naps, sprawling upside down with absolutely no dignity, and being near the people she trusts. -Trust is particularly important to Luna. -We were told she previously experienced abuse involving a man, and she arrived with a significant fear of men. She bonded much more readily with the woman in our household. -With me, earning her trust took 6-7 months of patience, consistency, and respecting her boundaries. Today, she relaxes around me, sleeps nearby, and seeks and accepts affection. -One picture in this post is of the two of us together. It may look like nothing more than a man loving on a dog.To me, that picture represents six or seven months of earning her trust. Because of her history, we'd prefer a woman as Luna's primary caregiver. She CAN bond with men-I'm proof-but her trust must be earned on her terms. OTHER ANIMALS: Luna is not an aggressive dog. She's inquisitive toward other animals, generally gets along well with dogs, and has peacefully lived in our multi-animal household. When confronted by a dominant animal, Luna's tendency is to withdraw and make herself small. Unfortunately, our Belgian is jealous of Luna and has initiated fights with her. Luna doesn't initiate or pursue these confrontations; she defends herself when attacked. Because of this, they must remain separated. We also have Samantha, our 14-year-old female Border Collie. To keep her from getting caught in the middle, Samantha has been staying with my parents. Unfortunately, Samantha was recently attacked there by my brother's 6-year-old Great Pyrenees. She was lucky to survive and required emergency veterinary intervention. Samantha now needs to come home. This adds urgency to Luna's search, but we will not place Luna irresponsibly. A home with another compatible dog is absolutely possible. We simply want responsible introductions. LUNA IS AN ESCAPE ARTIST Luna requires secure containment and outdoor supervision. We live on a hill where erosion has raised the ground where our chain-link and privacy fencing meet. Luna figured out that section can be climbed. Her previous canine companion was tragically killed crossing the highway near her former home, so we take this extremely seriously. Luna will go home with her collar and AirTag, but secure containment is essential. WHY ARE WE STILL SEARCHING? Luna was always intended to be a foster. We've actively searched for her permanent family since February. Recently, we thought we'd finally found it, but her potential placement fell through about two weeks ago. Our household cannot become her permanent arrangement. Luna and our Malinois require separation, our workdays can be approximately 12 hours, and Luna spends more time kenneled than she deserves. Samantha also needs to return home. Keeping Luna indefinitely would keep her safe, but it wouldn't give her the life she deserves. We were always supposed to be the bridge between the home she came from and the home where she belongs. WE ARE LOOKING FOR Someone patient, kind, and committed who will give Luna consistency, routine, secure containment, and time to adjust. Experience with German Shepherds, working breeds, rescue dogs, or fearful dogs is preferred. Because Luna is an intact purebred German Shepherd, we will be selective. Potential adopters should be prepared making decisions about their household, animals, fencing, work schedule, dog experience, and what everyday life would look like for Luna. Luna is safe with us until we find the right person. We're not looking for the first person willing to take her. We're looking for the person who can finally tell her, 'This is your home. You don't have to leave again.' If that could be you, please private message us. If you can't adopt Luna, please SHARE HER STORY. We found Luna because we happened to see a Facebook post at 10 PM on the final night she needed someone. Maybe her forever family will find her the exact same way. Please share and help send Luna to her forever home.
