MEET ITZEL - A SMART SCHNAUZER WITH LOTS OF LOVE FOR HER PEOPLE! Itzel is a 6-year-old, approximately 20-pound Schnauzer who is one smart cookie! This girl is affectionate, playful, and well trained. She knows sit, shake, and spin-and she's especially motivated when treats are involved! She also enjoys playing with other dogs. Inside the home, Itzel is a sweetheart who bonds closely with her person. Once she trusts you, she wants to be right by your side. But Itzel needs a special kind of home, and we want to be honest about that so we can find the right match. Itzel can be reactive toward unfamiliar people. She barks at people she sees while out walking, and she has difficulty accepting new people who enter her home. It can take time, patience, and positive experiences for her to begin trusting someone new. Even after she starts warming up, she may remain wary. Itzel also appears to become protective of her person, so her behavior isn't limited to food or toys. She needs an experienced, patient adopter who understands that building trust takes time and who is prepared to work with her on these challenges. Itzel's ideal home: An adult-only home with no children A home without lots of unfamiliar visitors coming and going Someone experienced with dogs who bark, react, or struggle with unfamiliar people A patient adopter willing to help her feel safe without pushing her beyond her comfort zone Itzel is house trained, spayed, microchipped, up to date on her vaccinations, and has had her dental cleaning. Itzel isn't the right fit for every home, but the right person could make a world of difference for her.
