About Dex

My husband rescued this boy from an abandonment situation, and while we've grown to love him while caring for him the last few months, we've realized that our home may not be the best long-term fit for his needs. He is a 2-3 year old Lhasa Apso/Poodle mix, around 16 lbs, with a sweet personality and lots of quirks! He loves giving kisses, playing fetch, and being around his people. He's not a huge cuddler, but he enjoys lying next to you and keeping you company. He also does well in his kennel, gets along with our other dog, and is great about staying close when let outside. We did get him neutered and a round of vaccines. That said, I want to be completely transparent about some of his challenges because we really want to find the right home for him. A few important things to know about him: * Grooming: He needs to be groomed by an experienced professional, as he can become fear-aggressive during grooming. * Handling: He does not like having his feet touched and will bite if someone tries to handle them. * While he does well in his kennel and can hold it, he occasionally has accidents in the house, particularly on carpet when left unsupervised if not let out. He will need someone willing to be consistent with letting him out. Despite these challenges, he really is a sweet little dog. He loves attention, enjoys playing, and has so much personality. We just believe he would do better in a quieter home with someone who has the time and experience to understand his behaviors and work with him. Because of his sensitivity to handling and history of biting, we feel a home without very young children would be best. Someone familiar with fearful or reactive dogs would be ideal. We aren't looking to just give him away to anyone. We want to make sure he goes somewhere safe, loved, and understood. If you or someone you know might be a good fit for him, please reach out.
