About Mattis

Mattis is and is not your typical Chessie. He is singularly focused on retrieving whatever you will throw for him and if you won't throw it, he will throw it for himself. Where he is not typical is in his temperament. He is very clingy and sweet with the most docile personality I've ever seen in a chessie. He is also a non typical color (dead grass). He is purebred, but was not registered. He is extremely well behaved and formally trained as a bird dog, The only reason we need to find a suitable home for him is we travel regularly and he has developed an extreme fear/anxiety disorder ever since successfully completing heartworm treatment. I fear with all of the traveling we do, we are making the problem worse. He shuts down for a long time and after every trip. For this reason, we are looking for a quiet home atmosphere where someone is home with him regularly so he can thrive. You must have a good throwing arm because he will spend all day bringing you a ball or his favorite turtle. We love this dog and will be very selective of the home he goes to.
