Vet is at VCA Alexandria. His neuter surgery is scheduled for this Wednesday, 10/28, and he will be ready to head to his forever home once healed (approx. Nov 4th-7th). The Hook: Why He's Special Yoshi is the definition of high-reward. He is a showstopper, gorgeous, clever, athletic, and possesses that signature Shiba Inu grin that makes you forget every minor inconvenience. We are opening up his applications today (Sunday, 10/25) so his perfect family is fully approved and ready to go post-surgery! At 1 year old, his birthday is Halloween, he is officially out of the tiny puppy stage, which means he has graduated straight into the adolescent selective hearing and boundary-testing phase. The Real Talk: Where He Needs Work: Let's be transparent: Yoshi is a blank slate wrapped in a red sesame double coat that sheds all year long. Because he missed out on early foundational training, he is still working on: ��%BD'� Leash manners: Pulling, zig-zagging, and freezing like a statue. Strong prey drive and a bit mouthy, not aggressive! Just curious about other dogs. We are working on it! ��%BD'� House training: Currently he is working on bladder control through the night. ��%BD'� Shiba sass: He doesn't have an 'obey-to-please' factory setting. Training him feels less like giving commands and more like negotiating a business contract with a very stubborn cat. He might scream when he's frustrated, side-eye you when asked to sit, or test your patience just to see what happens. What His Dream Home Looks Like: ��%BD'� Experience level: Shibas are not for an inexperienced dog owner. Someone who knows spitz/nordic breeds, appreciates independent personalities, and won't take it personally when the dog acts unimpressed by them. Plus patience and love. ��%BD'� Patience & Sense of Humor: You need to laugh when he throws a mini-tantrum over a leaf on the sidewalk and celebrate tiny victories like a normal sit-stay. Remember he is a teenager. ��%BD'� Structure: A household ready to commit to consistent, positive-reinforcement training, mental puzzles, and daily exercise. ��%BD'� Household: A house with a small yard would be best. No cats. He is great with dogs socially but must be the only dog in the home due to resource guarding. Older children/teens only, as they best understand Shiba boundaries. Why on earth would you?
