About Mugzy

Adoption Fee: $350
Pit Bull / Dachshund
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Meet Mugzy! This sweet boy is honestly one of the most loving dogs we've met. He's a pit bull mix, possibly with some Dachshund (he has the cutest little short legs and long body!), weighs around 25 lbs, and is estimated to be about a year old. Mugzy is incredibly affectionate and loves being close to his humans, cuddling on the couch, and soaking up all the love he can get. He has such a wonderful balance of being playful and laid-back. He absolutely LOVES playing fetch at the park and will happily chase a ball over and over, but once he's home, he's perfectly content relaxing with the family. He's definitely on the lazy side and enjoys leisurely walks rather than needing constant exercise. He also has a nice independent side and is happy relaxing outside in the yard on his own. He may whine when left completely alone, but doesn't become frantic or panicked. Mugzy has been incredibly loving and gentle with our four young children and has also done beautifully around our other animals. He's low shedding, crate-trained, sleeps quietly through the night, and is catching on fast with potty training. He walks beautifully on leash without pulling, knows basic commands like sit and stay, and is continuing to work on his recall. He's generally quiet and relaxed in the home, takes treats gently, and loves his chew toys. He's still young and occasionally needs a little redirection toward his own toys when he finds something else to chew on. Mugzy came from a shelter before arriving at the rescue, so we don't know much about his early life or what experiences he's had. He has a watchful side and can be alert to activity around the home, sometimes barking or growling at people passing by. He's also still learning to feel comfortable in certain situations, particularly when on leash around unfamiliar people and dogs. While he's been incredibly loving with our own children, he's had a few incidents of growling, lunging, and snapping toward unfamiliar children. We've worked with a trainer who feels his reactivity can improve with time, patience, and consistent training. Because of this, we feel he'd do best with someone who has dog experience and can offer him a calm, adult-only home without visiting children. Mugzy has so much love to give, and we're hoping to find that special person who can offer him the loving forever home he deserves. If you're interested, we'd love to hear about you, your home and lifestyle, and your experience with dogs. Finding the right match for him is really important to us.
