Her name is Daisy, she is 5 years old, up to date on all shots, incredibly healthy, soft, and pleasant smelling, and quite possibly an Armenian Gampr, an ancient and extraordinary livestock guardian breed! We're currently awaiting DNA test results through the Armenian Gampr Society of America, which may also be able to provide additional resources and support. For those unfamiliar, Armenian Gamprs are an ancient landrace originating in the Armenian Highlands, where they've spent thousands of years protecting livestock, families, and homesteads. They're intelligent, fiercely loyal, independent thinkers, and relatively rare outside their native region. And this girl is something special! A little backstory: Daisy was originally rescued from the streets of Tbilisi, Georgia. The COUNTRY, not the state. She was sick, malnourished, and barely able to walk. My Russian friend loved her enough to nurse her back to health and bring her more than 5,000 miles to Florida. Now we need the happy ending to her story! Here's what we know: %90%BE She's remarkably comfortable around livestock! Pigs, cattle, sheep, poultry, and other birds haven't fazed her one bit. She seems right at home among farm animals, although continued supervision and proper introductions are important. %90%BE Cats and squirrels? Different story. She's got a serious prey drive, and small furry creatures tend to trigger her chase instinct. A home without indoor cats or other vulnerable small pets would be best. %90%BE She's great with kids! But she's also an enormous, enthusiastic creature who often think she's a lap dog and hasn't quite grasped her own dimensions. Small children could easily get knocked over accidentally. %90%BE She's incredibly intelligent and trainable. With consistent leadership, she's made tremendous progress with household manners, boundaries, and excitement-related mouthing. She still needs occasional redirection with new people, but she's come a LONG way! %90%BE She's officially a HOUSE DOG! Despite her background and affinity for farm life, Daisy wants to be WITH her people. She's affectionate, deeply bonding, and happiest when she's included in family life.
