We have had Nugget for about 4 years, and unfortunately, we are looking to find a new home for him. He has been dealing with some fearfulness/anxiety that is leading him to pee in places beside his litter box. He has done it in front of us multiple times, which we have learned is a distress signal. We have dealt with this off and on since we got him. He was also rehomed to us - he came from a home with 2 elderly cats, and we were told he was 'beating up on the older cats too much.' We have had him checked out by 2 vets now (bloodwork, UTI checks, etc), and his bill of health has come back clean each time. We have now tried giving him an anxiety medication (pill and liquid form) for the past 3 weeks, but he intensely fights the medication. He is now at a point where he just seems so miserable, and we think the only hope for him is to find a better home that suits him. We have tried to give him a good home for the years we've had for him, and we are gutted that we couldn't make him feel more comfortable. For some background, we have another cat and dog. We had the dog first and got Nugget shortly after - they found their groove and learned to cohabitate. Nugget started peeing outside his litter box shortly after he came to us. Then last year, we got a kitten (female, Coco). We had hoped that she and Nugget would become friends. Coco likes Nugget a lot more than she likes him - she wants to play with him, he mostly does not. Aside from the peeing issue, Nugget is a great cat. He is good with kids and adults. He plays a little, but he's mostly pretty low energy. He doesn't bite or scratch (his front claws were removed as a kitten). He lets anyone pick him up (just drapes limp like Ragsolls do). He's pretty tolerant of most dogs that he has been around as long as they don't try to play with him too much. Our guess is that he may prefer a home where he is the only pet, or where he'd be with other cats that are low energy and don't want to wrestle. We really do not know what else to do with the poor guy, but we just want him to be happier.
