About Dolly

Adoption Fee: $650
Poodle
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Dolly is a sweet 5-year-old (20 lb) Poodle who is finally getting her chance at the life she has always deserved. Unlike your typical family dog, Dolly spent much of her life as a breeding dog in a puppy mill, where she was used as a mill mom and had litter after litter. Thankfully, those days are behind her, and she is now safe in our care. It's finally Dolly's turn to be someone's beloved companion! Despite everything she has endured, Dolly is one of the sweetest girls you'll meet. She is affectionate, gentle, and has a heart full of love to give. When she begins feeling comfortable around you, she may surprise you by approaching, flopping over, and showing you her belly for some gentle affection. She also gets excited when her foster comes home from work, happily greeting them at the door. Those little moments are a beautiful reminder of how much love she has to give. THE HOME DOLLY NEEDS: Dolly is looking for a very specific type of home. She would do best in a calm, quiet, adult-only household with NO CHILDREN. She needs someone who understands that she is still learning how to navigate life outside of a breeding environment and that adjusting to a normal household takes time. Dolly is not the type of dog who will immediately jump into every new experience. She needs a slow-paced environment, a patient family, and someone who will allow her to approach things at her own comfort level. Although Dolly is an affectionate girl who enjoys approaching people for attention, she can occasionally get startled by unfamiliar situations or sudden movements. She has never shown any signs of aggression and is truly just a sweet, gentle girl who needs a little extra patience and understanding. It's important to allow her to approach new experiences at her own pace and respect her comfort level as she continues building confidence. DOG & CAT FRIENDLY! Dolly is both dog and cat friendly! In fact, she tends to thrive around other dogs, as having a friendly canine companion can help her feel more comfortable and confident. She would do well in a home with another friendly, well-adjusted dog who can keep her company and help her continue settling into everyday life. However, Dolly can also do wonderfully as the only dog in the household! She doesn't necessarily need another dog to be happy. She can either enjoy the companionship of another pup or have the opportunity to be the center of attention and receive all the love from her family. Ultimately, we are open to either placement as long as her home provides the calm, patient, and understanding environment she needs. IMPORTANT: DOLLY IS NOT CURRENTLY COMFORTABLE WITH LEASH WALKS. Her future family must be comfortable adopting a dog who may not be able to accompany them on traditional neighborhood walks. Dolly does best with access to a securely fenced yard where she can comfortably go outside to potty and enjoy the outdoors without the pressure of being walked on a leash. A securely fenced yard is strongly preferred for her placement. She also needs a family willing to take a more hands-off, gentle approach when introducing her to a leash and harness. She should never be rushed or forced into situations that make her uncomfortable. Building that confidence will take patience, time, and consistency. POTTY HABITS & EVERYDAY ROUTINE: One of Dolly's great qualities is that she does very well with her potty routine! She reliably goes potty outside when given access to a yard. A home with a fenced outdoor space would be ideal, allowing her to comfortably maintain her routine and enjoy the freedom of going outside at her own pace. HER SECOND CHANCE: Dolly's past may not have been filled with the love and comfort every dog deserves, but we know her future can be different. She deserves a soft bed, a peaceful home, gentle affection, and someone who understands that the little things we take for granted may still be new experiences for her. We aren't looking for someone who expects Dolly to become a completely different dog overnight. We're looking for someone who can appreciate her exactly as she is today while giving her the opportunity to grow more confident in her own time. Dolly doesn't need a busy household or endless adventures. She needs a safe place to call home and a person who will let her blossom at her own pace. VETERINARY CARE: Dolly has been fully vetted, including a veterinary examination, vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and spay surgery. She is ready to find her forever home! If you have a quiet, adult-only household, a securely fenced yard, and the patience to welcome a dog who needs a slower approach to life, Dolly may be the perfect companion for you.
