SALLY - A LITTLE GIRL WITH A GENTLE HEART, WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO UNDERSTAND HER. 3-Year-Old Chihuahua Mix. Female. 15.3 lbs. Upland Animal Shelter - Upland, California. Animal ID: IEPA-A-20329. At the shelter since October 3, 2026. Some dogs run straight into your arms. Others need a little time before they decide you're someone they can trust. Sally belongs to the second group. And there's something very special about a dog who asks you to earn her friendship. Meet Sally, a lovely 3-year-old Chihuahua mix with a sweet personality, a gentle spirit, and just the right amount of independence. At first, Sally may seem a little shy. She prefers to observe, get comfortable, and decide for herself when she's ready to make friends. But give her a few minutes, approach her gently, and you'll begin to discover the affectionate little companion hiding behind that cautious first impression. And once she feels comfortable, Sally has a wonderful way of showing her softer side. She enjoys gentle affection, especially those lovely chest rubs, but she's not a dog who appreciates being rushed or overwhelmed with attention. Sally likes having her personal space respected, and she deserves a family who understands that trust is something beautiful that grows with time. A LITTLE GIRL WHO ENJOYS HER WALKS: One of Sally's lovely qualities is how nicely she walks on a leash. Although she can be shy when meeting new people, she's a confident little explorer once she's out discovering her surroundings. At just over 15 pounds, she's a wonderful size for someone looking for a smaller companion to share peaceful walks and everyday adventures. Sally doesn't need someone to change who she is. She needs someone who will appreciate her for exactly who she is. WHAT ABOUT OTHER ANIMALS? Sally has shown promising signs around cats, approaching them with calm, cautious curiosity. However, she has not been formally tested with cats, so compatibility cannot yet be guaranteed. She has not been tested with other dogs either, and any potential canine companion would require a careful introduction and compatibility assessment. SALLY'S IDEAL HOME: Sally would likely be happiest in a calm, patient household where she can settle in without pressure. An adult-only home is preferred, although a quiet family with respectful teenagers ages 13 and older may also be worth considering. Her ideal adopter will understand that a shy dog doesn't necessarily need more attention. Sometimes, what she needs most is the reassurance that she can approach you when she's ready. A gentle voice. A peaceful environment. A little patience. And someone who celebrates those small, precious moments when trust begins to blossom. GIVE SALLY A CHANCE: There is something deeply rewarding about earning the trust of a shy dog. The first time she approaches you on her own. The first time she leans into your hand for affection. The moment she realizes that she no longer has to be cautious because she's finally home. We cannot promise exactly how Sally will behave in her future home. But we do know that this sweet little girl deserves the opportunity to feel safe, loved, and understood. Sally isn't looking for a perfect person. She's looking for a patient one. Could that person be you? Come meet Sally at Upland Animal Shelter in Upland, California. Ask for Sally - Animal ID IEPA-A-20329.
