About Sparky

Meet Sparky, a 4-year-old, 11 lb. long-haired Chihuahua with the cutest little smile and happy-go-lucky spirit. Sparky was originally picked up by Bridgeport Animal Control, and Trumbull Animal Control later took over his care. Sadly, no one came forward to claim him, leaving him waiting in the pound until Happily Furever After Rescue stepped in. Now, he's settling into a foster home where he feels more comfortable, and his sweet personality is finally getting the chance to shine! Sparky is an adorable little nugget who will snuggle right up alongside you. He enjoys leisurely walks, snacks, and following you around wherever you go - he will certainly be your little shadow. He can be a bit cautious when meeting new people. Given his small size, being picked up or petted by someone he doesn't know can feel scary, so he appreciates a slow, gentle approach while he learns to trust you. Once Sparky feels comfortable, he loves being close to his people and soaking up their affection. But there's a reason he's called Sparky! If you touch him somewhere he'd rather not be touched, he may give you a little nip to let you know-think of it as his own tiny electric shock! His sensitive skin and allergies make him a little uncomfortable with body handling, so he prefers gentle pets on his head for now. He's currently taking Apoquel to help manage his itchiness, and antibacterial shampoo should be used when bathing him to help keep his skin comfortable. With a little patience, respect for his boundaries, and the right approach, you can win this little guy's heart without getting zapped! Sparky is well-socialized with other dogs, but he's pretty indifferent to their company, so he'd be perfectly happy as your one and only! He does tend to choose a favorite person and may guard him/her from other dogs. If there is another pup in the home, an adopter with experience managing resource guarding is highly preferred. He's house-trained, crate-trained, and walks nicely on a leash. When you leave the house, he'll happily settle into his crate and patiently wait for you to return. His favorite place to be? Curled up in your lap or snuggled under a cozy blanket on the couch! Sparky may be small, but he has a big place in his heart for the person (or people) he chooses as his own.
