One of our adorable little amphibian-themed pups who came to rescue alongside Peeper and Lily after their elderly owner transitioned into a care facility. Newt is approximately 8 years old, according to our veterinarian, and quite possibly one of the goofiest little creatures we've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Between his ridiculous teeth, permanently untamed hair, and wonderfully silly personality, he looks like someone assembled a dog using spare parts and absolutely no instructions. Thankfully, they got the personality just right! Newt is an incredibly sweet, happy little guy who gets along wonderfully with other dogs and cats. He's got a face only a mother could love, except we're pretty sure EVERYONE is going to love this face. He's quirky, affectionate, and full of personality. There's something about this scruffy little gentleman that makes it impossible not to smile. Newt arrived with a few medical surprises that required some extra attention. What initially appeared to be a fatty mass near his penis turned out to be concealing a small umbilical hernia. During his veterinary care, we also addressed his cherry eye and a small eyelid growth, along with investigating a possible retained testicle. His surgery was a bit more complicated than anticipated when he experienced unexpected bleeding, requiring a second procedure to investigate. Because of concerns regarding the nature of the mass, tissue was submitted for biopsy to rule out something more serious, including a possible mast cell tumor. His medical journey has been a little more eventful than we anticipated, but we're making sure this sweet boy gets the care he deserves. Despite everything, Newt remains his wonderfully goofy, lovable self. He's not particularly concerned about his unconventional appearance, and frankly, neither are we. Those wild hairs and crooked little teeth are part of his charm! What matters most is that underneath all that scruff is a genuinely sweet little dog who deserves a safe, loving home to spend his golden years. Newt has already had his share of unexpected adventures. Now we'd love for his next chapter to be a little less medically exciting and a whole lot more comfortable. If you've got room on your couch and in your heart for a scruffy little gentleman with questionable dental architecture and an absolutely perfect personality, Newt might just be your guy!
