About Cooper

Meet Cooper! Cooper is a 9 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog mix originally adopted from Texas. Cooper would do best in a (single dog?) home without children. Cooper is a spirited and very well trained dog. He was in several board and train programs when he was younger. He is a great representation of the Catahoula breed: intellegent, food modivated, independent, highly loyal to people he is familiar with and a can be little aloof or wary of people he is not familiar with, and he loves to have a job. He is calmer than most Catahoulas and loves to take long naps, especially when it's sunny, but he also loves a long walk or hike. He likes to be the alpha and his few dog friends are female. He is a great guard dog and will give single woof but otherwise isn't a big barker. He has a strong prey drive, but grew up with a cat in the home and respected her space. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. Aside from some minor plaque on his back teeth, he has a perfect bill of health from his vet. He knows basic commands: Down, Here, Stay, Go to your bed, Go Potty etc. and also has a myriad of tricks he performs: Spin, Rollover, Touch etc. he learns new commands extremely quickly. He is crate trained and prefers to sleep in his crate, leash trained, and is trained with a buzz collar for off leash recall. Historically he tends to resource guard food and treats, and he doesn't like being cornered.
