Meet Tyson - a companion who loves water, toys, and morning cuddles! Tyson is a 6-year-old Lab/Pit/Mountain Cur mix looking for a safe, loving home through no fault of his own. He is currently in Louisville, Kentucky, and transportation assistance is available for the right home. Born April 16, 2020, Tyson weighs approximately 74 pounds. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and heartworm-negative. His last veterinary visit was in June 2026, and he receives Simparica Trio for flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His personality Tyson is affectionate while also enjoying his independence. He loves morning cuddles, ear rubs, butt scratches, and having his own space to relax. His favorite activities include swimming, boat outings, fetch, tug, and exploring the yard. When it's time to settle down, he enjoys blankets and stuffed toys. He is house-trained, responds well to routines, and has not had destructive separation issues in my care. He knows 'sit,' 'shake,' 'down,' 'up,' and 'speak,' plus 'los,' his release command during fetch and tug. He is accustomed to walking on my left side. Other pets and children Tyson has done well at doggy daycare and enjoys playing with other dogs, although his play can be rough. He has never been in an actual dog fight. Over approximately the past six months, he has begun growling at my mother's dog around food. They are now fed separately, and there have been no physical altercations. He has not shown food aggression toward people. A home with another animal must be willing to feed them separately and carefully manage food access. He generally likes children, but his exposure to young children has been limited. His experience with cats is unknown. Tyson may grumble when disturbed while sleeping, so he needs a household that respects his resting space and allows him to wake before approaching or handling him. His care and everyday needs Storms, fireworks, and car rides can make Tyson anxious. He has prescribed trazodone for situational anxiety. He can be vocal in the car and needs to be safely secured because he may try to climb into someone's lap. He occasionally experiences allergy-related paw itching that comes and goes, typically lasting a few weeks, and sometimes needs his anal glands expressed. He eats twice daily using a slow-feeder bowl. Tyson is clever enough to open some lever-handle doors and may slip through an open exterior door, so secure doors and gates are essential, along with secure fencing if the home has a fenced yard. Socks and underwear must be kept out of reach because he may swallow them, and kitchen and bathroom trash should be secured. Why he needs a new home Changes in my home circumstances and a career change requiring extensive travel have left me unable to provide the consistent care Tyson deserves. He is staying with my mother, but her declining health means she can no longer care for him. This is an incredibly difficult decision, and it is through no fault of his own. Tyson needs someone who will enjoy his affectionate, playful personality while providing a steady routine, secure surroundings, and understanding of his needs. I love him deeply and want his next home to be a lasting one. If you think Tyson could be a good fit for your family, please contact Danielle Roque at 317-289-8283. Veterinary records are available, and I am willing to help with transportation.
