Meet Sammy - Looking for His Forever Home %9D%A4%8F Sammy is a 2-year-old Husky/Blue Heeler mix with a big personality, a loyal heart, and so much love to give. He is playful, protective, affectionate, and incredibly smart. His absolute favorite things are peanut butter, getting pets, and playing fetch or tug-of-war. He knows several commands, including sit, down, wait, stay, paw, and spin (which is especially adorable!). He is house-trained, potty-trained, and eager to learn. A little about Sammy's needs: Sammy experiences fear-based and barrier reactivity, particularly toward other dogs, following an incident involving an off-leash dog. He can also become overstimulated or overly excited easily. He has nipped before, so it is important to be upfront about his behavioral needs and find someone who understands that reactivity requires patience, consistency, and ongoing training. While this is something that will take time and dedication, Sammy has so many wonderful qualities that make him worth that effort. Sammy has shown that he can coexist with other dogs under the right circumstances. He was able to live alongside and get along with my former roommate's small dog. However, any future introductions would need to be handled carefully, and a home without other dogs may be the best fit. Why are we rehoming him? This is an incredibly difficult decision, and it comes from a place of love rather than a lack of it. I adopted Sammy about a year ago, and shortly afterward, I found out I was pregnant with my first child. Since the pregnancy was unexpected, much of our time, energy, and resources have gone toward preparing for and caring for our baby. We have tried our best to give Sammy a good life and adjust our routines around his needs. We live in a two-bedroom apartment with a small yard, and although he has gradually become more settled into our routine, we recognize that he needs more enrichment, exercise, mental stimulation, and individual attention than we can consistently provide right now. We love Sammy dearly, and we have tried hard to make things work because he is such an amazing dog. However, we believe that loving him also means recognizing when we can no longer give him everything he needs to thrive. We want him to have the opportunity to live a fulfilling life in a home that can better meet his needs. His ideal home: Sammy would thrive with an experienced, patient owner who understands dog behavior, reactivity, and positive-reinforcement training. A quieter household with one to three adults, preferably without young children, would likely be the best environment for him. Because of his herding instincts, tendency to become overstimulated, and history of nipping, a home without children is strongly preferred. He would benefit from someone who can provide consistent training, structured exercise, enrichment, and plenty of one-on-one time. Someone willing to continue working with him and help him feel safe and confident would make all the difference. Sammy is not a bad dog. He is a loving, intelligent, playful dog who has some behavioral challenges and needs the right environment to succeed. We are hoping to find someone who will see his potential, understand his needs, and give him the time, patience, and love he deserves. This decision breaks our hearts, but our greatest wish is to find Sammy a safe, loving, and permanent home where he can truly thrive. %9D%A4%8F
