Baxter is a very sweet mix that we adopted 2 years ago from a family whose kids had outgrown him and they didn't have the space/time to manage his energy. He was raised as a suburban pet, and while he has adapted to farm life, he still really likes to chase things (sheep/goats/cows). We have been able to stop him from chasing poultry, but I wouldn't recommend penning him up with them. All of our dogs have always roamed our remote and largely unfenced property, but Baxter spends more time at the neighbors houses than at our farm, and we feel he would be better off adopted to a loving family with a fenced yard or field to keep him in.
