About Maverick

We are looking for a very special home for our sweet 8-month-old German Shepherd/Lab mix, Maverick. This has been an incredibly difficult decision because he really is such a loving, smart, goofy boy. Maverick absolutely loves his people. He is affectionate, playful, incredibly intelligent, and loves being included in whatever his humans are doing. He bonds closely with his family and has that wonderful Shepherd loyalty-once you're his person, you're HIS person. He loves to play, run, explore, and then be close to his people when it's time to settle down. He's still very much a puppy and has so much potential. Maverick has lived with cats and does well with them. He loves people and has no bite history. His biggest challenge is that he is reactive toward other dogs. Because of this, he needs to be the only dog in his new home and would do best with someone who understands German Shepherds, working breeds, or reactive dogs. His ideal home would have a securely fenced yard with plenty of room for him to exercise and play, preferably in a quieter neighborhood or more rural setting where he isn't constantly surrounded by unfamiliar dogs. He needs an active, confident owner who can give him structure, consistency, exercise, continued training, and plenty of mental stimulation. Someone who enjoys hiking, walking, playing outside, training, or simply having a loyal dog by their side would be wonderful for him. We are rehoming Maverick because circumstances in our family have changed and we can no longer give this young, energetic dog the amount of exercise, training, and attention he deserves. This isn't because his behavior has suddenly worsened. We love him dearly and want to give him the opportunity to have the life we know he can have with the right person. Maverick isn't the right dog for every home, but we truly believe he could be an incredible dog for the right one. He needs someone willing to see past his reactivity and recognize the loving, intelligent, loyal young dog underneath it. We just want to find the person who will give Maverick the life he deserves-and in return, we think they'll get one heck of a best friend.
