Miley: Fetch Champion, Adventure Buddy, and Loyal Best Friend If you're looking for a fun-loving companion with a big personality and an even bigger heart, Miley is ready to meet you. This 2-1/2-year-old, 65-pound Shepherd mix is equal parts athlete, best friend, and couch companion. Miley is smart, eager to learn, and always ready to earn a treat. She already knows how to sit, shake, and lie down, and her food motivation makes training both easy and enjoyable. Miley can even catch treats! She loves having a job to do and would thrive with a family that enjoys continuing her training and keeping her mind engaged. When it comes to fun, Miley has one true passion: balls. Toss one and watch her spring into action. Whether it's a game of fetch in the yard or carrying her favorite toy around the house, Miley approaches life with enthusiasm and joy. Miley does well with other dogs, but initially she can be reactive because she is fearful. We believe she may have been attacked by another dog in the past. She takes her cues from the dogs around her. If a dog approaches calmly and respectfully, Miley is happy to meet them and does just fine. However, if a dog comes charging toward her, barking and acting excited, Miley will likely respond in kind. Her reactivity can also show up when she encounters dogs while out on a walk or when another dog is on the opposite side of a fence. Seeing a dog in those situations can make her feel threatened, and she may bark, lunge, or become very focused on the other dog. This doesn't mean she can't live successfully with another dog. It means her family needs to understand her triggers and be willing to manage those situations thoughtfully rather than expecting her to greet every dog she encounters. Miley has attended doggie daycare and done very well there. She loves to play in an environment where she feels safe. She would be happy as an only dog or with a canine companion who has good social skills and doesn't feel the need to compete with her. Any resident dog should have a calm, appropriate approach to introductions, and we would want the dogs to meet before adoption. Because new situations can be challenging for Miley, we recently started her on Fluoxetine to help reduce her anxiety. It has been helpful in taking the edge off while she works through some of her fears. She may not always need medication as her confidence grows, but for now, it is an important part of helping her feel more comfortable. The cost is approximately $12 per month, and her future family will need to be comfortable continuing the medication while she needs it. While Miley enjoys canine company, people are truly her favorite. More than anything, Miley wants a person of her own. She is incredibly loyal and forms strong bonds with the humans she loves. Whether you're heading out on an adventure, throwing a tennis ball in the yard, or relaxing on the couch, Miley wants to be right there with you. She is wonderful with kids and has a gentle, affectionate side that shines once she feels safe and loved. A physically fenced yard is required for Miley. She loves to run, play, chase toys, and burn off energy, and a fenced yard gives her the freedom to safely enjoy all her favorite activities. Her family will also need to be mindful of fence-line encounters with other dogs and not allow her to rehearse that reactive behavior. Miley is looking for a home that will see past first impressions, appreciate her sensitive heart, and give her the connection she's been searching for. She needs people who will introduce her to new experiences at her own pace, celebrate her progress, and understand that confidence doesn't happen overnight. In return, you'll get a devoted companion who will love you with her whole heart, make you laugh every day, and happily spend her life by your side. And if you happen to have a tennis ball handy, you'll probably become her favorite person in record time. Miley has excellent house manners, is housetrained, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested and microchipped.
