Meet Loopy, a 10-year-old, 15-pound Dachshund who has never met a stranger, never turned down a snack, and firmly believes that wherever you are is exactly where he should be. Bathroom? He's coming. Kitchen? Obviously. Couch? He has already selected his seat. Bed? Under the covers, please. Farmers market? Target? Road trip? Probably the vet? Loopy would like to submit his r̩sum̩ for the position of Your Tiny Sidekick. And honestly, he's overqualified. Loopy is what happens when you combine a Walmart greeter, a professional snuggler, a sunbathing enthusiast, a snack critic, and a tiny escape artist into one adorable little Dachshund. He LOVES people. Men, women, older kids, you name it. Loopy's basic philosophy is: 'You are a person. Therefore, I love you.' He is also wonderful with other small dogs and has done just fine meeting medium-sized dogs. He could happily live with canine siblings or be your one-and-only. His real requirement is simply that he gets plenty of human companionship because Loopy is very much a Velcro Dachshund. He wants to sit beside you. He wants to follow you around the house. He wants to nap next to you. He wants to be involved in whatever you're doing. And if there is a blanket available? Please prepare to share. His ultimate dream is to sleep in the big bed, underneath the covers, glued to his person. If you don't allow dogs in bed, he will graciously accept his soft crate in the bedroom. But he would like it noted that this is his second choice. His first choice is YOU. Under the covers. Forever. Loopy also has a bit of a rebellious streak. He initially did beautifully in his crate. Then one day he apparently looked around and thought, 'You know what? I don't think I work here anymore.' And proceeded to learn how to unlock his crate from the inside. Yes. He can break out of jail. He is now gated in the kitchen, where he cannot use his tiny criminal mastermind skills to liberate himself. He does wonderfully in a soft crate at night. He isn't a troublemaker, exactly. He's just... resourceful. Loopy is also incontinent, so he wears a stylish pair of man pants and does very well with them. Keeping him on a bathroom schedule helps, and he can be stimulated if needed. It's a manageable part of his routine, and frankly, he wears his pants with more dignity than most humans. Health-wise, Loopy does have some special needs. He has Cushing's disease, a grade-one heart murmur, alopecia, and a history of a back injury. His murmur does not currently affect his daily life, and despite his previous back injury, this little guy still gets around just fine. He loves running around the yard and doesn't act like someone who has any intention of letting his past slow him down. He takes Vetoryl once daily for his Cushing's, which runs approximately $100 per month. He also has a dental scheduled for the end of October. His coat is wonderfully low-shed-about a 1.5 out of 10-although his alopecia means he will absolutely need a sweater when Wisconsin decides to become Wisconsin. Loopy has already requested burgundy plaid for fall. Obviously. His favorite season is summer because he LOVES lying in the sunshine. He will bask until he is perfectly toasty, then flip over and toast the other side. He is basically a tiny Dachshund rotisserie chicken. And when he's not sunbathing, he's busy serving as an official snack tester. Liver treats? Yes. Collagen chews? Absolutely. Bully sticks? Obviously. New snack flavor you've never tried before? Hand it over. Loopy needs to conduct research. Despite his moderate activity level, Loopy isn't looking for a family who wants to hike 14 miles before breakfast. He'd happily go for walks, stroll around a farmers market, ride in a stroller, hang out in the yard, or accompany you on whatever little adventures you have planned. He just wants to be included. He's a happy-go-lucky little guy who rarely barks, has no food or toy guarding issues, isn't fearful, and generally seems to have decided that life is pretty darn wonderful. His theme son
