About LEXIE

LEXIE is a 5 year old, 8.5 pound Yorkie who came to us as an owner surrender. She needs someone willing to give her the time, space, and patience to decide for herself that she's safe, a confident little dog friend, and a secure yard to explore. LEXIE is a shy little girl who needs some time and patience to feel comfortable with new people. The best way to win her over is actually to mostly leave her alone and let her come to you, with plenty of treats along the way! Once she starts feeling safe, you'll be rewarded with adorable little stump-tail wags and a tiny shadow following you around the house. LEXIE loves lounging on the couch and will snuggle with her favorite person or curl up with another dog. One of her funniest little habits is stuffing her face into a pillow when she's decided she's had enough of whatever is going on. She also LOVES treats and is a bit of a picky eater. She prefers wet food and can be nervous about bowls, so eating from a plate or being hand-fed works better for her. LEXIE's new home must have another small, laid-back dog who can help her gain confidence, learn the routine, and understand that her new people and surroundings are safe. She looks to other dogs for reassurance and will lightly play with a calm canine friend, although she hasn't quite figured out what toys are for yet. Cats would likely be fine, but children will be overwhelming and frightening for her. LEXIE is generally potty trained, although she isn't always great about letting you know when she needs to go out. A securely fenced yard is required. She is not comfortable walking on a leash and will flatten herself to the ground, but she loves being outside where she can do laps around the yard and investigate everything. Sometimes she gets nervous about coming back inside, but if you turn your back, she'll quickly sneak through the door when she thinks you aren't looking. At bedtime, LEXIE is happy sleeping on the couch or in the big bed as long as she has stairs or another easy way to get up. She'll also sleep in a dog bed if needed. She's an early riser and is usually ready to head outside around 6:30 in the morning. LEXIE is spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, has had a Proheart12 heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review. We adopt within a 6 hour drive to Pensacola. Puppies and dogs with pending vet appointments, and dogs with behavioral or medical issues are only adoptable locally (within 1 hour to Pensacola).
