Garfunkel is a sweet boy that loves to sit in buckets and bins and play with hairties and springs and strings. He's a vocal and playful baby, a wonderful companion for an active household looking for a travel buddy, mousepad warmer, sous-chef and velcro cat. He's a high-energy boy who loves to play with people-- less with other cats, but he's been known to get along with other patient felines or younger kittens. Spicy cats or defensive gatos tend to prickle at his initial nervousness and grumbles, and he does bat at others occasionally, and will fight back if provoked. He's a chatterbox and has 'barked' in the past when he's especially grumpy, and gets zoomies periodically that may get conversational. Garfunkel loves to follow people around, sit with you while you're gaming or working at a desk, and he loves his bins and buckets and boxes. Set him up in a cardboard box, a rubbermaid tote, or a tray, and he'll doze for hours. Occasionally gets zoomies and flings hairties and springs around to chase-- chuck one down a hallway and he'll go nuts. put a string around his shoulders and he'll play with it, dragging it around like a scarf. Playful and affectionate, occasionally nippy if overstimulated but genuinely doesn't bite or scratch aggressively. Doesn't know his own strength sometimes, has bitten hard enough to puncture (not deeply) but is redirectible and this can be prevented with understanding of cat body language. The ideal home for this boy is one that can take him out in brief car rides occasionally, he's harness trained and can wear shirts. Any other animals should have a calm or patient temperment, as he is a bit defensive at first. He enjoys looking outside, listening to birds, climbing and running, and does well with active households-- although he may need to get picked up if he's on a harness and decides to sit somewhere. Has developed companionable relationships with other cats in the past, and generally will avoid but tolerate small dogs, although they stress him out. Has been attacked by a large dog in the past, unsure if able to tolerate cohabitation with one. He has not interacted with small children, but has played with and gotten along with children that are elementary-aged. Will have to see about other small animals. Primarily indoor cat, outdoor on a harness ONLY (please). He is leash trained and tolerates being in a carrier very well. He doesn't have good recall, but generally you can follow him and scoop him up if he gets out or needs to be moved. Liftable and doesn't lash out if you move him, although he will complain and need to direct his energy at toys etc after being moved so he doesn't swipe at you. Knows how to stash a pill in his teeth or cheeks if you don't drop it directly on the back of his tongue, but tolerates taking pills once you get him. Has been on prozac before to calm him before, but it did not solve his urination issues. He's neutered, fully vaxxed, and has a clean bill of heath as of last vet visit, with no urinary issues to speak of. Tested for urinary blockages, UTIs, crystals, and blood sugar content, with a clean bill of health. His urination problems are behavioral rather than medical in nature. He can be a little bit prissy with litterbox cleanliness and size, as he's a big boy. Not obese by any means-- but as a maine coon mix he's LONG and tall, and dislikes litterboxes that he has to stoop down to use. Litterbox should be 'defensible' and he tends to put his front feet on the edge to do his business. His ideal home keeps his litterbox very clean, and is able to keep a close eye on him to prevent inappropriate elimination. As a kitten he would go to the bathroom in sinks and showers, and this has escalated to other furniture items due to stress with our other cats, lack of room for adequate litterboxes and inability for our household to follow him religiously to redirect. He is deeply loved, and I hope to maintain a relationship with his foster family or forever home-- my extended family might be able to take him when medical issues resolve for them, but if he does really well I would be open to permanent placement. I'm deeply saddened by the fact that I can't keep up with him anymore-- he was a COVID baby that was used to me being home often, and now that I work full time I can't follow him to keep him entertained and happy. I can help provide some supplies for him, and I need to place him ASAP. https://photos.app.goo.gl/zEN7JWKScP2g8gBK8
