Chihuahua mix

ADENA is an 8-year-old Chihuahua mix who weighs about 17 pounds. She was found as a stray on July 3rd, just before the chaos of Fourth of July fireworks began. A kind person got her to safety, but unfortunately, no owner was ever found. When ADENA came to us, she needed quite a bit of medical care. She had cherry eye, an inguinal hernia, a deep wound beneath her eye, intestinal parasites, significant hair loss from fleas, and she was heartworm positive. She has been through a lot since coming into rescue, including surgery on a hind leg, and is finally ready to find a loving family of her own. ADENA is a sweet, affectionate little girl who loves being close to her person. She is a wonderful lap dog and is always happy to settle in for snuggles and belly rubs. She is afraid of thunderstorms, but wrapping her in a blanket and holding her close helps her feel safe and secure. ADENA does well with the other dogs in her foster home, although she appreciates having her personal space respected, especially around her food. She would be happy as an only dog or could live with a calm, easygoing dog who isn't going to constantly be in her space. She does well with older children. We do not know how she would do with cats. ADENA is almost completely housetrained, knows how to use a potty pad, and uses a doggie door. She walks very well on a leash and enjoys going for car rides. She has also discovered that exploring outside and relaxing in the sunshine can be pretty wonderful! ADENA is still building strength and confidence in one of her back legs following surgery on her patella. She uses it when walking but may hold it up when she decides to run. Every dog recovers at a different pace, so her new family will need to be patient with her as she continues to heal and gain strength. ADENA would especially love a home where her person is around much of the time. She may scratch at the door when initially left alone, but she does settle down. She could do well in an apartment or a home and does not require a fenced yard as long as she is safely leash walked. After everything ADENA has been through, it's finally her turn to simply be someone's beloved little companion. She is ready for a family who will give her plenty of love, patience, snuggles, and a soft place to land. %9D%A4%8F ADENA is up to date on shots, spayed, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. She is heartworm positive and has started treatment which will continue to be paid for by the rescue until she is heartworm negative. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
