Hamlet is a sweet and loving dog who thrives on attention. While a bit of a velcro dog, he loves adventure and enjoys regular long walks and hikes, canicross, camping, and making sure that the backyard stays clear of squirrels. After his day's adventure is done he is content to cuddle and nap for most of the day. He is a superchewer and has not yet met a toy that he cannot destroy. He loves squeaky toys and balls, though he often gets distracted while playing fetch. He likes the really cheap, soft plush toys that he can pull the stuffing out of, and has a fondness for chewing silicone/rubber (we have lost several spatulas this way). He loves to do training sessions, and does well with regular reinforcement of commands. He is crate trained, leash trained, and house trained. He does occasionally pull at the leash if he gets distracted, but refocuses quickly. He is extremely food motivated and does sometimes have a problem with stealing food that has been left unattended or licking dirty plates. He is used to being crated while owner is at work, but sleeping in bed with his human at night. A bit of a blanket hog, he is usually good about sleeping towards the foot of the bed and moving to the floor when he gets too warm. He has lived with cats in the past and will tolerate them, but would do best in a home without. He would do well as the only dog in a home or in a shared home. Does best with women, but can learn to love men as well. He is sometimes nervous about people who are particularly tall or have facial hair. He has minimal experience with young children, would do best with older children/teens. Hamlet is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, takes regular flea/tick/heartworm prevention meds, and is in good overall health.
