Champ is a 3-year-old Beagle-JRT mix who has overcome more than most dogs ever should have to. First he found himself in an overcrowded NC kill shelter after being seized from his owner along with his fur siblings. During his time in the shelter system, the stress of kennel life took a toll on him. Like many dogs who spend too long without stability or a person of their own, Champ developed behavioral challenges that made it difficult for people to see the wonderful dog hiding underneath. He was very standoffish, timid of strangers, and slow to warm up. So, while all of his former housemates were either adopted or went to rescue, Champ was left behind and slated for euthanasia. But we saw something worth fighting for. Since coming into rescue, Champ has worked extensively with professional trainers and has put in an incredible amount of effort to become the dog he was always capable of being. Today, we are proud to say that Champ has reached adoptable status-and he has earned every bit of it. He has excelled in his obedience training, learned how to navigate the world with confidence, and proven that he can be successful in public settings. Every day, he continues to show us that he wants to be a good boy and that he is trying his very best! He does well with other dogs (though he is still learning social skills and how to be the best version of himself around them), but what Champ wants more than anything is a person. A person he can trust, who will be consistent, who will provide direction, leadership, and love. Once he bonds with someone, it's clear just how badly he wants to belong. Champ is not a fit for homes with cats or young children. His ideal home is one where expectations are clear, routines are consistent, and his person is willing to continue building on the foundation he has worked so hard to create. Now Champ is patiently waiting for the forever home he's worked so hard to earn. For information about adopting Champ, please contact Julie on 919 624 0059
