MUNCY - SMART, PLAYFUL, AND READY TO BE YOUR LITTLE SHADOW. Upland Animal Shelter, Upland, CA. Animal ID: IEPA-A-19792. Breed: Border Collie Mix. Sex: Male. Age: 1 year Weight: 39 lbs. Intake Date: September 18, 2026. MEET MUNCY: If you have ever wanted a dog who thinks being with his person is the greatest thing in the world, you may have just found him. Muncy is a young, affectionate Border Collie mix with a big personality, a bright mind, and an enormous love for his people. At just one year old, he has that wonderful adolescent combination of curiosity, enthusiasm, playfulness, and an eagerness to discover everything life has to offer. But underneath all that youthful energy is something especially endearing: Muncy is a Velcro dog. He loves attention. He loves being petted. He loves tummy rubs. And once he connects with you, he wants to be wherever you are. Muncy isn't looking for a home where he'll simply be part of the scenery. He wants to be part of your life. Going for a walk? Muncy would like to come. Heading out for a hike or adventure? He's ready. Playing in the yard? Even better. Relaxing after a busy day? Make room beside you for your new little shadow. SMART, PLAYFUL AND READY TO LEARN: Muncy has the intelligence you would expect from a Border Collie mix. He already knows basic commands, including 'sit,' and he is smart, attentive, and eager to learn. He also loves to play fetch and will bring and drop his toys, making playtime a wonderful way to exercise both his body and his brain. Like many young, energetic dogs, Muncy can become excited and jumpy. But he responds well when redirected back to his person. With gentle, positive, consistent training, he has tremendous potential. This is a dog who wants to engage with you. He doesn't just need exercise; he needs companionship, interaction, and opportunities to use that clever Border Collie brain. YOUR ADVENTURE BUDDY: Muncy would thrive with an active person or family who enjoys walks, hiking, outdoor adventures, games, training, and spending time together. Once he gets out and settles into his walk, he walks nicely and enjoys exploring with his person. At only 39 pounds, he's also a wonderful medium-sized companion: athletic enough for adventures but compact enough to fit comfortably into everyday family life. Because Muncy is still young and enthusiastic, breed experience is preferred. He would do best with people who understand that a smart working-breed dog needs both physical activity and mental stimulation. Most importantly, Muncy would love a home where his people are around often. He is a deeply social, people-oriented dog who seems happiest when he can share life with someone he loves. THE RIGHT HOME FOR MUNCY: Muncy would do best in an active home with children age 13 or older. He has not yet been formally tested with other dogs, so compatibility with another dog would need to be evaluated. He has also not been formally tested with cats. Based on observations, he may potentially be cat tolerant, but any introduction to a cat should be done carefully and gradually. Muncy can also be chatty and vocal - another little glimpse of the personality packed into this handsome young dog. A DOG READY TO GIVE HIS HEART: Muncy is only beginning his life. At one year old, he has so much ahead of him and so much potential to become an extraordinary companion. He needs someone willing to give him exercise, guidance, positive training, and plenty of companionship. In return, Muncy will bring enthusiasm, intelligence, affection, playfulness, and the wonderful devotion of a dog who truly wants to belong to someone. If you are looking for a smart, fun-loving adventure buddy who will happily become your devoted little shadow, please come meet Muncy. He may have arrived at the shelter looking for a home. Perhaps what he is really waiting for is his person. TRANSPORTATION IS AVAILABLE FOR RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS.
