DEVORE, CA, So Cal - SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY ANIMAL CARE - ID #A850849 'AKEELAH' a beautiful 5 year old, rare brindle female akita. Please note most rescues need a foster or foster to adopt home to save. Help! This dear girl was found as a stray and ended up in a high kill shelter where most dogs do not have long. She has been waiting since 8/31 and is running out of time. Previously mislabeled as a chow mix and overlooked, her breed has been corrected to akita mix as she has a bright pink tongue and beautiful brindle coloring on her black and weighs 73 lbs. The shelter provide us with Behavior Notes that state: 'Dog is relaxed and solictious on approach, relaxed tail wags, appears to have some difficulty standing up. Is interested in treats and food motivated but did not stand to eat just turned body to reach bowl. Remained soft and gentle and allowed pets while eating no aggression observed. Did note dog appears underweight and placed a staff request for BID feedings.' Her Medical Notes state, '08/31/26 Alopecia appreciated on tail, caudal hind limbs, and mild hair thinning on dorsum. Suspect FAD. Schedule medicated baths 3 days after topical prevention application. BIW x 3 weeks. Med waiver'. This was updated 9/12/26, and notes state, ' RVT WAS ABLE TO GET DOG TO GET UP FROM A DOWN POSITION AND MOVE AROUND FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER IN KENNEL. DOG DID NOT APPEAR TO HAVE ANY LAMENESS OR DIFFICULTY. DOG IS QAR WITH A BCS 3/9. WILL HAVE STAFF WEIGHT CHECK DOG AND MONITOR.' They also sent us a video of her being calm in her kennel which we will post on facebook. We are desperately looking for an adopter or foster and a rescue (please note rescue groups NEED fosters) to save each dog in time.
