Wylie is an approximately two-year-old, 55-pound German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix. He is intelligent, energetic, playful and very affectionate with the people he trusts. He loves long walks and being close to us-often climbing into the recliner to share our space. He settled into indoor life remarkably well, behaved beautifully during an evaluation with a professional trainer and has shown that he can listen and respond to his handler. Wylie also has behavioral concerns that must be fully disclosed. He has reacted aggressively in several situations involving children and people entering his home territory. These incidents included lunging and nipping, with one nip causing bruising. He has also jumped and dug under fencing, so secure containment is essential. Wylie needs a knowledgeable handler, a secure setting and careful introductions to visitors. A home without young children would be safest, although he may potentially do well with older, dog-savvy children following professional evaluation and closely supervised introductions. We hope an experienced rescue will consider both the concerning behavior we have witnessed and the loving, responsive dog we know Wylie can be.
