X URGENT AT PHOENIX, AZ - ID #A5171861 -'KAT' AT MARICOPA COUNTY ANIMAL CARE, WEST LOCATION- ADOPTABLE, PRETTY AND PETITE CHOW GIRL - NEEDS LOVING FOREVER HOME OR FOSTER AND RESCUE- now sick with nasal discharge and UTI and needs out asap!! We are in urgent need of finding a responsible forever home or foster for dear 'Kat' who was found a stray with two other dogs and brought to the shelter on 9/19 in hopes of finding her owner. Sadly, no one showed though. Now named Kat, the shelter estimates she is 4 years old and currently weighs only 37 lbs. While she was made adoptable, Kat may become 'Rescue only' and or also be soon at risk soon due to space, or if she declines in the shelter environment or because she is now sick. Kat was noted as having serious nasal discharge on 9/25, one day after her recent spay surgery, and may also now have a UTI for which she was prescribed antibiotics for. Unfortunately, this shelter is well known for adding chows to their euthanasia list. Intake notes state, '09/19/2026 walks on leash, allows most handling and petting, light restraint for vaccines, avoidant of handler, some tail tucking, pacing, does not take treats'. On 9/23, notes state, 'In yard, dog explored; neutral body; low tail; approached handler; offered treats; took treats gently; tried jumping up for treats; settled; tolerated slow petting; head shy; allowed for petting on body; offered more treats; explored; would allow handler to approach; allowed for slow petting; more interested in yard; approached handler when offered treats; would allow for petting; followed handler into catch pen; walked away; allowed handler to follow. Picked leash up; exited; little to no pull; walked behind handler most of the time; entered kennel; pushed out; handler stepped into kennel; allowed for easy leash removal.' Additional behavior and medical details may be found on his listing link: https://apps.pets.maricopa.gov/adop.../Home/Details/A5171861 Kat is spayed and now ready for a home. Since she is adoptable and not Rescue only at this time, you may contact the shelter directly to adopt her in person. Adoptions are currently only $50 currently. This includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and microchip. She is recommended to a home with at least older children. As with many chows, it is also recommended that new people and pets have a slow introduction. A chow savvy home is preferred, or someone familiar with the breed. Adopters and Rescue groups should contact the shelter directly at: [email protected] and by calling 602-506-7387 and providing the ID. If you may be interested in fostering for a rescue, or helping in some other way (ie., pledging for a rescue if needed), please email [email protected] asap at Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement asap.
