Miley is a beautiful black Pug who is proof that sometimes the sweetest dogs just need someone willing to give them the time they deserve. At 2 years old, Miley had lived a very sheltered life and had never experienced many of the everyday things most dogs encounter growing up. Leashes, car rides, toys, and even simply being outside were all unfamiliar to her. She had a lot of catching up to do and thanks to an incredible foster home, Miley is finally learning what it means to be a dog. When Miley first arrived, the world was a very overwhelming place. She was nervous and unsure, especially around new people and unfamiliar situations. But she has been blossoming. Her foster family has patiently introduced her to new experiences, and Miley has made tremendous progress. She is much less nervous than she was and is learning that new things do not have to be scary. Miley will likely always be a somewhat sensitive and nervous dog, particularly with strangers. She is not the kind of dog who will run up to every new person and immediately ask for attention. Instead, she needs someone who understands that trust is earned. She needs a patient person who will give her time to settle in, learn her new surroundings, and discover that she is safe. Once Miley trusts you, though, the loyalty she'll give you is unlike any other. Her foster parents describe Miley as one of the easiest dogs they have ever had. Once she gets past the initial nervousness, she is remarkably easy to live with. She gets along wonderfully with all of the other dogs in her foster home and has learned to enjoy the simple comforts of everyday life. She has discovered that couches are excellent, soft beds are even better, and cheese is the best invention ever. Miley's future family will need to understand that safety comes first. When she is frightened, her instinct is to run, so she should remain securely leashed and carefully managed while she is learning to trust her new family and new space, especially outside in the yard. Open spaces and free range can be far too overwhelming for her in the beginning. She needs a secure environment, a predictable routine, and someone who will physically guide and teach her how to navigate the world until she is fully bonded and confident with her people. This is not about keeping Miley sheltered forever. Quite the opposite. She deserves someone who will help her experience all the things she missed out on earlier in life like walks, adventures, car rides, toys, new places, and the many little experiences that make up a dog's world. She just needs those experiences introduced thoughtfully and at a pace she can handle. Miley is an amazing girl. She may need more patience at the beginning than some dogs, but once she knows you, she becomes an incredibly loyal and easy companion. She is the kind of dog who will quietly attach herself to her person and be perfectly content curled up beside them, enjoying her soft bed and waiting patiently for someone to share a little cheese.
