X URGENT AT PHOENIX, AZ - ID #A5172131 -'PIEROGI' AT MARICOPA COUNTY ANIMAL CARE, WEST LOCATION- ADOPTABLE and HANDSOME YOUNG CHOW BOY - NEEDS LOVING FOREVER HOME OR FOSTER AND RESCUE- no issues per finder, good shelter notes We are in urgent need of finding a responsible forever home or foster for dear 'Pierogi' who was found a stray and brought to the shelter on 9/23 in hopes of finding his owner. Sadly, no one showed though. Now named Pierogi, the shelter estimates he is only 2 years old and he currently weighs 56 lbs. While he was made adoptable, he may become 'Rescue only' and or also be soon at risk soon due to space, or if he declines in the shelter environment or gets sick. Unfortunately, this shelter is well known for adding chows to their euthanasia list. The finder reported no behavior issues and said, 'NO AGGRESSION NOTED NO GUARDING NOTED. WALKS WELL ON LEASH. KEPT IN VEHICLE THE WHOLE TIME NO DESTRUCTION, RELAXED ENERGY IN THE CAR ' Most recent shelter notes we have also stated: '09/29/2026 Dog was on outer portion of kennel; standing at front; soft face; opened kennel door; remained at front; allowed for easy leashing; exited; walked well. In yard, dog started to explore; nose to ground; assistant handler tried verbally coaxing; dog would continue to explore; light pacing; looking out at surroundings; assistant handler crouched; extended hand out when dog walked past; tolerated for petting; dog started exploring near assistant handler; allowed handler to pet; dog was more interested in sniffing; continued exploring; dog came back to assistant handler; continued to allow for more petting; brief tail wags; dog walked near handler; also allowed for petting; soft eyes; brief tail wags; dog continued to explore; some light pacing at times. Followed handlers over to catch pen; picked leash up; exited; walked well back to kennel; entered building; startled by reactive dogs; hesitant to enter kennel; walked into kennel; allowed for leash removal.' Since he is adoptable and not Rescue only at this time, you may contact the shelter directly to adopt him in person. Adoptions are currently only $50 currently. This includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and microchip. He is recommended to a home will children at least 12 years old, and an experienced handler. As with many chows, it is also recommended that new people and pets have a slow introduction. A chow savvy home is preferred, or someone familiar with the breed.
