About Onyx

MEET ONYX! HIS PAST WAS HORRIBLE, BUT HIS FUTURE CAN BE BEAUTIFUL. Please take a moment to read Onyx's story. And then, please SHARE HIM. He deserves for his story to be seen by as many people as possible. Onyx is a precious 1 and a half year old black Standard Poodle who came to us as an owner surrender after enduring unimaginable neglect. He was kept in a crate 24/7 and primarily lived outside on an apartment balcony. Day after day. In the extreme heat. In the cold. Without the care, comfort, food, water, or love that every dog deserves. A Good Samaritan who lived in the apartment below could hear what was happening. She knew something was terribly wrong and eventually managed to convince the owners to surrender him. When Onyx came into our care, he was in heartbreaking condition. His beautiful coat had been allowed to grow so severely that he was completely matted and painfully overgrown. The mats were pulling tightly against his skin, and he must have been in tremendous pain. His eyes were so badly crusted from an infection and hidden beneath all that overgrown, matted hair that you could barely even see his eyes. The only way to free him from that suffering was to carefully cut away the severely matted coat. He was also underweight. He had not been receiving enough food and had barely had access to water. And on top of the physical neglect, he endured being yelled at and treated harshly. Onyx was failed by the people who were supposed to care for him. But that is NOT where his story ends. Onyx is SAFE NOW. He has been professionally groomed. He has seen a veterinarian and is receiving care for his eyes. Most importantly, he is now surrounded by kindness and love in an amazing foster home. For the first time, Onyx is getting to experience what every dog should know: A soft place to sleep. A full belly. Fresh water. Gentle hands. Safety. Love. And someone who tells him he is a good boy. Now we need to find him his FOREVER HOME. Onyx deserves a family who will cherish him, protect him, spoil him, and show him that the world isn't a scary place anymore. Standard Poodles are incredibly intelligent, loving, and devoted dogs, and Onyx has so much love and life ahead of him. We can't change what happened to him. But we can change what happens next.
