About Catalina

Catalina is an eight pound Chihuahua with a tiny body, magnificent ears and a decidedly selective approach to making new acquaintances. This five year old girl came to us from Craven Pamlico Animal Services Center in New Bern, North Carolina, where she arrived with her housemate, Salma. We believe Catalina and Salma are most likely mother and daughter, and the two share some unmistakably Chihuahua characteristics. Catalina is shy and cautious with people she doesn't know. She's much more interested in developing a close relationship with her person than in becoming everybody's instant best friend. New people may initially be greeted with nervousness and suspicion, and she needs an adopter willing to give her the time and space to decide for herself that everything is okay. For experienced Chihuahua people, none of this will sound particularly mysterious. Catalina needs a calm, patient approach, realistic expectations and someone who understands that a shy dog's affection isn't something you demand-it's something you earn. And when a little dog who has been carefully evaluating you finally decides that you belong to her, it's worth the wait. Catalina is good with other dogs and could happily share her home with compatible canine companions. At five years old, she's past the puppy nonsense but still a young adult with plenty of life ahead of her. We're specifically looking for Chihuahua-savvy adopters who will appreciate Catalina exactly as she is: cautious at first, selective about her people, and deserving of a home willing to give her the patience she needs to become comfortable. Catalina doesn't need everybody to love her. She just needs to find her somebody. Catalina is in excellent health, spayed, fully vaccinated and dewormed.
