About Sadie

This older 7 yr old gal has just been returned to the shelter after being with a local foster.. She was in an equestrian setting and the constant coming and going of people was a bit too much for her. Sadie is extremely intelligent, food-motivated, and eager to learn. She already knows sit, paw, down, stay, come, and roll over, and she enjoys learning new tricks. She is housebroken and crate trained. Despite having plenty of energy for training and activities, she is also very happy to settle down and be a couch potato. At her current foster home, she has calmly ignored the horses and done well around the barn. Sadie can be a little cautious when meeting new people and does best with a slow, positive introduction. Treats are definitely the way to her heart! Sitting down, offering her treats, and giving her a little time to approach at her own pace usually allows her to warm up quickly. Sadie has successfully participated in many appropriate playgroups with other dogs. She can enjoy canine friends but may correct dogs who become too pushy and sometimes tries to monitor or 'police' energetic play. She also has a previous history of playing roughly with children, so we feel she would be best suited for an adult-only home or a home with older children who understand appropriate boundaries. Sadie has also had one previous nip during a meet-and-greet while a staff member was holding her leash as the potential adopter family was leaving the yard. The nip did not break the skin. Because of this history, her future placement should be comfortable providing structure, management, and slow introductions with unfamiliar people. Sadie has so much to offer the right person. She is smart, loyal, affectionate once comfortable, and eager to learn. We would especially love to find a rescue or adopter who understands herding breeds and appreciates their intelligence and unique personalities. Sadie is in need of a foster or foster to adopt home!! Great for an older couple who wants a lovely companion. you really should be dog savvy with this girl, not just herders but dogs in general.
