About Fran

*PLEASE READ ENTIRE BIO. FRAN HAS SOME IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS* Fran (or Frannie) is an approx 5 year old, 13 lb poodle/maltese/schnauzer mix. She is a sweet girl who is looking for her forever home. Fran was dumped in an orchard with 3 other dogs and wound up in a shelter in Modesto after being picked up by animal control. She was pulled from the shelter by Hair of the Dog Rescue along with one of the others back in Oct of 2025. She has been in the same foster this entire time and her foster sis who was pulled from the shelter with her just recently got adopted and found her perfect person after a couple failed attempts prior. So, how come such cute sweet girls have been so hard to find homes for? Well, their previous life (we believe they were backyard breeder dogs) coupled with their dumping and shelter experience created some anxiety and a little PTSD in them. They required quite a bit of time to decompress and learn how to feel safe again. Fran has spent the past year helping new foster pups acclimate from shelter life to a stable foster home with consistency and stability. Most dogs that have come to her foster home love her. She would do well in a home with another calm friendly dog, preferably male but that is not mandatory. Fran is crate trained and potty trained (will likely need a refresher in a new environment tho) and is generally pretty low maintenance. She is an independent gal who can have a sweet spunky personality once she settles in. She also has a heart murmur which requires her to be on meds. Because of this she doesn't have high exercise needs but the murmur does not impact her quality of life. She's doing great. Here are some other things she will require in her new home: - A securely enclosed outdoor area. Fran loves being outside. She spends most of her day lounging outside on a lawn chair. She doesn't need a huge yard but she does need an outdoor space that is securely fenced - A calm, patient owner. Previous rescue dog experience would be nice but it is not mandatory. - Fran responds best to women or those with feminine energy - An adult only home. Young kids would not be a good fit for her - Someone who likes to give her belly rubs :) - Someone who is home a lot and will spend time with her - Someone looking for a companion dog to keep them company Frannie's foster mom loves her to pieces but feels it is time she find her forever home. We know someone out there will love her as much as we do at the rescue. She won't be for everyone but for someone who fits the criteria, she could become your best pal and companion :)
