About CANELO

Canelo came to us from Yuma. He was returned from an adopter after a bite incident due to a 'startle' situation. He will require a knowledgeable and consistent adopter who crates or puts him in a room when visitors come and who does not expect a dog who is going to be able to go on lots of adventures or do well with new people and situations (though that might be possible down the road once he gains more comfort and security). In his foster home it took him about 3 days to gain trust but now is happy and engaging and very much of a lap dog (and hugger). He would likely be best in a calm ADULT home with one or two other dogs his size as he seems to not be a fan of big dogs but doing fine with foster sibs. He does prefer ladies but can warm to men. Canelo is using the dog door and also notifies when he needs to go out so is likely housebroken. He also does well in a crate and seems to be leashed trained but is still settling in. Canelo is neutered, current on vaccines, microchipped and dewormed. Canelo is estimated 2-3 years and is 9 lbs. Canelo will need a home with routines and predictability and he would benefit from some professional training so that he came overcome his fear based negative behaviors and can become his best little self.
