About Starr

Meet Starr - a true working prospect Starr is a pure-bred black Labrador girl, around two years old, with a working career ahead of her. She actually started out in service-dog training - but her drive to work was too big for the job. She's too high-energy for calm service work; she needs a lot of activity, interaction, and a real job to do. For the right handler, that's not a flaw - it's exactly what you want. She's fully trained in the basics - obedient, eager to please, and ready for the next step: detection work, dock diving, or search and rescue. She has the drive and focus of a real working dog, with a sweet, biddable temperament to match. And she's very dog friendly and very people friendly. One important note for SAR handlers: Starr does not bark to alert, so she is not suited for FEMA-style search and rescue where a bark alert is required. She alerts reliably in every other way - just not with a bark. We're seeking a very special, restricted home: a working-dog home (detection/narcotics/explosives prospect), an experienced dock diving home, or a search and rescue handler (non-bark-alert disciplines). This is a restricted adoption - not because of any behavior issue (there is none), but because Starr needs a job and an active life. A casual pet home won't be enough for her.
