Jonesy - 4-Year-Old Male Cat Looking for the Right Home Jonesy is a 4-year-old neutered male indoor cat looking for a new home that is a better match for his personality and energy level. He is litter-box trained, food-motivated, affectionate, and has a big personality. How Jonesy came to me Jonesy was originally taken in by True Rescue and was later fostered/adopted by a volunteer. I ultimately adopted Jonesy from them after learning about his personality and temperament. I specifically chose an adult cat because I wanted a calmer companion and didn't feel that a kitten's energy level would be a good fit for me. After living with Jonesy for several weeks, I've realized that his energy level and behavioral needs are significantly higher than I was expecting. I don't believe this makes Jonesy a bad cat-in fact, he has many wonderful qualities-but I don't think my home and lifestyle are the right match for him. I want to be completely transparent so that his next home can be a better fit. Personality & behavior Jonesy is affectionate, curious, playful, and very energetic for an adult cat. He enjoys being around his person and will often follow you around. When he's ready to settle, he can be very sweet and loves to snuggle. He can also go from calm to extremely playful very quickly. He has frequent zoomies and likes to investigate, climb, scratch, paw at things, and interact with his surroundings. He can be particularly active at night. Some behaviors a prospective adopter should be comfortable with: * He likes to chew and bite things, including objects that aren't toys. * He will scratch furniture such as the couch even when scratching posts are available, so continued redirection and/or furniture protection is needed. * He frequently grabs blankets with his mouth, kneads them, and mounts/humps them. * He may play-bite or pounce at moving feet/legs when excited. * He can be persistent when he wants attention or food. * When someone is eating or snacking, he may get directly in their face and investigate the food, so boundaries around human food are important. * He can be very active and difficult to settle during nighttime hours. * He tends to view many things in his environment as potential toys and needs an adopter comfortable with a very curious, hands-on cat. These behaviors are the main reason I'm looking for a different home. I don't want to place him with someone expecting a calm, low-energy adult cat and have them experience the same mismatch that I did. His good qualities Jonesy also has many traits I really appreciate: * Very affectionate and enjoys cuddling. * Friendly and interested in his person. * Comfortable being left alone during the workday. * Uses his litter box reliably. * Not picky about food. * Eats both wet and dry food. * Comfortable with an automatic feeder. * Loves interactive toys, especially wand toys. * Curious and playful. * Can entertain himself for periods of time. * Can be very sweet and relaxed once he settles. * Has a lot of personality! What Jonesy needs I think Jonesy would do best with someone who genuinely enjoys a high-energy, playful adult cat and understands that his energy level may remain high even after settling into a new home. He needs someone who is comfortable with nighttime activity and playful behavior, can provide regular interactive play and enrichment, has appropriate scratching/climbing opportunities, and is willing to consistently redirect chewing, scratching, and play behavior. His blanket-mounting behavior should also be expected rather than viewed as an occasional behavior. Why I'm rehoming him This is ultimately a personality and lifestyle mismatch, not because Jonesy is a bad cat or because I don't care about him. I've worked on establishing routines, providing enrichment, and redirecting unwanted behaviors, and things have improved somewhat as he has settled in. However, I've realized that his baseline activity level isn't compatible with the calm home environment I was hoping for. I want Jonesy to be with someone who sees his energy and playfulness as a positive rather than something they constantly have to manage. My priority is finding him a safe, loving, and appropriate long-term home rather than simply finding the fastest placement.
