About Poppy

Poppy is a 7-year-old Bluetick Coonhound/Treeing Walker mix with a heart of gold. She is an absolutely beautiful girl and an affectionate, loving, cuddlebug of a coonhound. She truly wants nothing more than to get love and pets from everyone she meets. She loves a good game of fetch or tug of war with her humans. Her signature trait is her 'voice' - she bays when running alongside friends at the dog park! One of her favorite activities is going to the dog beach and romping through the waves or saying 'hello' to everyone. Given our busy schedule, Poppy gets a couple of short walks per day but we know this isn't how we want her to live - she would do best getting lots of mental stimulation and time outdoors as she is a high-energy breed and in overall good health. She would be absolutely thrilled to have new owners with an active lifestyle (she loves swimming, going for hikes/runs, and exploring new areas with her nose leading the way). She does not do well with young kids. She does have a bite history- she snapped at our 1 year old who started to crawl on top of her when we weren't supervising. No medical services were needed and our toddler was fine, but it reinforced for us that Poppy is uncomfortable around young kids and she would be happiest in a home either with no children or with older children who are good with animals. Poppy is fully house-trained and kennel-trained and knows basic commands like sit, down, stay/wait, paw, and high-five. She does have anxiety around loud noises like fireworks. She has demonstrated some resource guarding behavior with our other dog, particularly around food and treats, but is extremely well-behaved and submissive at the dog park. Health-wise, she was spayed at 8 weeks old and is microchipped and fully vaccinated. She has allergies to cat dander and dust mites and can get frequent ear/skin infections, so we have her on daily Zenrelia and Atopica plus twice monthly allergy shots with good results. A previous vet suspected she might have some food allergies so we also give her Royal Canin HP kibble which she does well with. True to her breed, she also needs regular ear cleanings and anal gland expressions. We are devastated that we need to rehome Poppy, but we know that she will make whatever home she ends up in a much brighter place.
