URGENT ASSISTANCE NEEDED PLEASE! We'd appreciate it if you could help spread the word - I've contacted several agencies - we would like Kura to go from our home to her next/last home. The urgency comes because as my husband has aged, he's become more fragile and weak, and every time he falls holding on to her leash is a safety issue for him. We are heartbroken to give her up but she deserves better than growing old before her time just because we can no longer keep up with her physically. Please see details below. Thank you, Sarah Karukera - 'Kura' - is an intelligent, beautiful, happy, trilingual, purebred Dutch Shepherd who has been my husband Roy's devoted service dog for six years. Her training organization and placing foundation both lack room to take her back, so we're reaching out directly. Kura is great - we're the ones who've run out of time. Roy is in his eighties, less steady on his feet, and a beat slower with a command than he used to be. Her prey drive is strong: she once pulled him into the river chasing geese, and he was bruised and bloodied before he could even think to let go of the leash. She just needs a 'leave it' reminder - he simply can't react fast enough anymore. She deserves a home that can keep up with her, starting now. She's smart, well-trained, and needs a physically and mentally strong owner who'll give her consistent training, exercise, and play - she loves hiking and catching a frisbee. Just as happily, she'll settle onto the sofa for belly rubs, cuddles, and kisses with her favorite people. DETAILS: About 7 years old, spayed, microchipped, fully up to date on care * Leash, house, and crate trained, knows all her basic commands - in French, English, and Spanish * Affectionate and calm indoors, happy to be active outside * Strong prey drive with small animals - best with an experienced owner; would need careful, supervised introductions to cats or other dogs * No history of aggression, though she's grown protective of Roy as he's become less steady * Hasn't been tested with children - she's lived exclusively with adults for the past six years She is truly a wonderful companion and we are heartbroken about rehoming but we have become too old to keep up with her. We need to find Kura her forever home as soon as possible, and we'd love for it to be a great one.
