About Mabel

Mabel needs a foster (or foster to adopt)! Have you ever felt like Goldilocks, where something is too much this or not enough that, and finding the right fit seems impossible? Then you have something in common with Mabel. Mabel was rescued by Kennels 2 Couches months ago, in spring. She was at the shelter and on the short list because she had bad skin, which was responding to medicated baths and TLC. But not fast enough to allow her to remain long enough to heal and be available for adoption. The shelter needed her out. She was 8 years old, a senior by typical dog standards. Good with other dogs, good with people. She just had shitty skin. Mabel first went to a foster to adopt home in North San Diego area. The woman saw her post, and really wanted to help Mabel and hopefully adopt her if she was a good fit. She was looking for an older, couch potato dog and hoped that was Mabel. We flew Mabel from Santa Barbara county to Oceanside on a private flight (Mabel did great!), and Mabel hung out there for the summer. But Mabel was too energetic, and not enough couch potato so it wasn't a good fit. Next we tried Mabel with a woman in Arroyo Grande, CA. She wanted a dog with energy because she liked to walk at a lake every day. Mabel flew back to Santa Barbara county (still did great!) and went to foster to adopt #2. Her new mom loved her, and had a great time with Mabel. But Mabel was too protective of her yard for the mobile home park's liking, so Mabel had to leave her. Mabel went back to a trainer in San Diego that she stayed with after she left her first mom, and he was going to hang onto her until we could find a suitable spot. But then his landlord decided he had one dog too many (Mabel) and she had to go. This is where we are today. Mabel is a sweet girl, but she has a strong personality and needs someone who can hold her to her boundaries. She's a strong walker, and needs someone who is comfortable walking a strong dog. She loves other dogs and people, but she gets REALLY excited and will jump up. She could care less about cats. She's spayed and potty trained, and doesn't mind a comfy crate. She should be an easy dog to place, but she's just too much of this or too much of that so far. In my mind Mabel is perfect ��%BD����%BD, that's why I rescued her. So what do I need? I need a home for mabel. She's not going to jump over a fence but if it doesn't latch securely she might push through the gate if somebody comes up to it. She doesn't need 4 miles of walking everyday, but she would probably enjoy a walk around the block in the evening. She will not destroy your couch, she will not destroy your yard. She travels well, she enjoys car rides and rides well. She would be an amazing companion for someone.
