About Simba

Some girls dream of Paris. I dream of a soft couch, a steady, loving hand, and a four-legged best friend to share life's adventures. I'm Simba, a beautiful 32-pound cocker spaniel girl, nearly 4 years old, with the kind of gentle sweetness that sneaks up on you. I didn't have an easy start in life-I came from a puppy mill in the Midwest and somehow ended up at a local Florida shelter, where I was adopted. My family loves me, but they realize I need more specialized care and understanding than they can provide, so they asked FCCR to help me find a new home. Having another friendly dog in my home is really important to me-I'm braver and happier when I have a buddy around. Life can still feel a little scary to me sometimes, but I'm learning that it's a much better place when I have a calm, patient person and a confident dog to show me the way. Because the outside world can still feel overwhelming to me, I need a securely fenced yard where I can safely go potty and get some exercise. I'm still learning that outside is the place to go potty, so puppy pads are my backup plan for now. I also don't understand the whole leash-walking thing yet, and it makes me nervous-but I'm much more willing to go when another dog leads the way. With patience, consistency, and the right teacher, I know I can keep making progress! I love my people once I get to know them. Women? I trust pretty easily. Men take a little more convincing. I'll need someone soft-spoken and patient who lets me come around at my own pace. I'm probably okay with older, dog-savvy kids who know how to move gently and won't startle me. As for cats? I haven't met any yet. My perfect match? A human with experience helping a shy or timid dog feel safe and loved-someone who understands that progress can come in small, quiet victories.
