About Coco

Meet Coco, a sweet and playful 7-month-old mixed-breed puppy! Coco was surrendered through no fault of her own after her family moved to a home with pet restrictions. She previously lived indoors with adults, children ages 4, 14, and 16, and other dogs. Her former family described her as affectionate, friendly with people and strangers, and sweet and playful with children. Coco is crate trained, walks well on a flat collar, and whine when she needs to go outside to potty. She knows 'come' and 'stay,' enjoys playing with balls and squeaky toys, and loves chicken-flavored treats. During her temperament evaluation, Coco was extremely submissive but remained friendly and tolerant of full-body handling. She sometimes lowered herself and crawled toward people while seeking reassurance and affection. She took treats gently and showed no food-bowl guarding. Coco was a little reluctant to release a valued chew, so her new family should continue working on trading items for treats and teaching a reliable 'drop it' using positive reinforcement. Coco's comfort level with other dogs appears to depend on the individual dog. She seemed intimidated and reacted defensively when introduced to a taller male dog, but she relaxed and attempted to play with a smaller female dog. A meet-and-greet will be required with any potential canine companion. Coco was curious but non-aggressive during her cat evaluation. She sniffed the office cat and then walked away, responding well to redirection. Because she is still an energetic puppy and may chase a less-confident cat, gradual introductions and supervised interactions are recommended. Coco is an affectionate young dog who will thrive with a patient family willing to build her confidence, continue her house-training, and guide her through puppyhood with gentle, positive-reinforcement training.
