About Rex

Rex is a loving, 4-year-old Beagle/Australian Shepherd mix (53.3% Beagle/47.7% Australian Shepard) who weighs about 33 pounds and is looking for his forever home. He enjoys meeting people and giving hugs and kisses, but he needs time to build trust and has important boundaries. Rex should be the only pet in an adult-only home. He is protective of food, toys, and people, and will do best in an environment where he does not feel stressed about needing to share them with other dogs. Additionally, his personal space must always be respected as he has a history of reacting to being startled while sleeping. When given the opportunity to approach people for affection rather than being approached, he is a wonderfully, loving boy. Rex needs an experienced, dog-savvy adopter-ideally someone familiar with herding breeds and resource guarding-who can provide consistent structure, training, mental and physical enrichment, and predictable routines. He must be allowed to settle in at his own pace, which may take months or longer. With patience and commitment, Rex has the potential to become a trusting, wonderful companion; he has already made strong progress with a knowledgeable foster. We are seeking an adopter in Virginia or the surrounding area.
