Cheyenne is a beautiful six-year-old German Shepherd weighing approximately 63 pounds. I recently took her into my home with every intention of giving her a permanent, loving home. Unfortunately, I have had to accept that she is simply too energetic and physically powerful for me to manage safely. I am 84 years old and have some balance difficulties following back surgery. Cheyenne pulls very strongly and jumps up when she becomes excited. I am afraid that she may knock me down, cause a serious injury, or pull away from me while I am trying to walk her. This is not Cheyenne's fault. When she settles down, she is sweet, affectionate, and truly wonderful company. She loves being near her person but is also content to give you space as long as she can see you. She rarely barks, has not damaged anything when left alone, and previously lived with a family that included five children. She does well with adults and teenagers and has reportedly done well with larger dogs. However, she should not be placed with cats or small dogs, and I cannot personally confirm how she would behave around very young children.
