About Chaz

Chaz Needs a Foster or Adopter to Secure His Ride to Wisconsin Chaz is currently in a Georgia kill shelter and needs a FOSTER or ADOPTER to secure his spot on the transport to Cedarburg, WI with Mutt Life Dog Rescue on Saturday, October 3rd. A committed home is required for him to make the trip, and we're hopeful the right person is out there. Meet Chaz If you like German Shepherds with a little extra personality, you're going to love Chaz! Chaz is a 2-year-old German Shepherd who came into the shelter as a stray after being found on a dirt road. We later discovered that his previous owner had been trying to give him away for free online. Unfortunately, from the condition Chaz was found in, it appears he had not been receiving the care he deserved. He arrived weighing just 43 pounds and was clearly malnourished. He is now up to 53 pounds, but still has more weight to gain. Despite his rough start, Chaz is a very people-oriented boy who wants nothing more than to be around his people. He is smart, eager to learn, and already knows sit, shake, down, and 'platz.' He rides very well in the car, loads up on his own, and sits nicely for the ride. Chaz has been excellent with the female dogs he has met. He was recently neutered, so we have not yet had a chance to introduce him to male dogs. He does have some prey drive, so we would recommend a home without cats. He absolutely loves to play fetch and is fantastic at it! He will happily retrieve the ball and even lets you take it right out of his mouth. Chaz is not awful on leash and is continuing to work on his manners. He can be a little protective of his people when strangers approach. If someone comes up while he is being walked, he may bark to let them know he is there, but he responds well to correction and settles right back down. He seems to simply want to make sure his people are okay. Chaz does have a little bit of extra GSD personality and will need someone who understands the breed and is willing to continue working with him. He is a very good boy underneath it all, and with some structure, consistency, and continued training, we think he is going to be an incredible companion. Chaz does not appear to be housebroken yet, and we don't believe he has had much experience living indoors. His new family should be prepared to help him learn all the basics of being an indoor dog. He is smart and eager to please, so we think he will catch on quickly with the right person. Apply: Fill out adoption application completely and submit all necessary documents. 2.)Application Decision: approved applicants will be notified via phone call and email. 3.)Foster-to-Adopt Trial Period: after approval, you have the opportunity to do a meet and greet and bring your dog home! You get a 5 day foster-to-adopt (FTA) period to make sure it's the right fit. 4.) Final Decision: By the end of the FTA period, please let us know your final decision to adopt or return the dog to our rescue. 5.) Home Visit: After the adoption process we conduct a home visit either in person or via zoom meeting to ensure that everything is going well with the transition and to answer any final questions you may have. 6.) Neuter/spay for puppies: for dogs who are not fixed at the time of adoption, we will reimburse $125 for the procedure once we receive proof of spay/neuter.
