About Spar

Spar is a beautiful, large Bengal with a huge personality. We welcomed him into our family when he was about a year old after his previous owner unexpectedly became pregnant and needed to find him a new home. She had more than 100 people interested in him and took choosing his next family very seriously. We intend to do the same. Spar is an incredibly playful, energetic, independent and VERY vocal cat. He is expressive and communicative, and if he wants or needs something, you will absolutely know about it! He especially comes alive in the evenings and gets a serious case of the zoomies around 6 p.m. He would thrive with someone who enjoys the energy and personality that come with a Bengal and has the time and environment to keep him stimulated. Affection is very much on Spar's terms. He loves to nuzzle and will often lie beside you or even on you, but he is not a traditional cuddly or 'lap cat.' He usually prefers simply being near his people rather than being continuously petted. He enjoys short periods of petting and will let you know when he has had enough. During play he can occasionally play-bite or use his paws, and if he does not want to be touched, he may swat. His claws are intact, although he rarely actually scratches people. Someone comfortable reading a cat's body language will understand him very quickly. He is 100% an indoor cat, although he has been leash-trained enough to take supervised walks after becoming comfortable with an area. He absolutely does not enjoy water. He loves playing, exploring the house, chicken, fish and treats. Spar has lived a surprisingly adventurous life and travels exceptionally well for a cat. He has traveled cross-country with us multiple times and has moved into several different homes, adapting remarkably quickly each time. He is very independent with his everyday routine. He currently uses automatic food and water systems, regulates his eating and drinking well, and is fully litter-box trained. His litter box does need to be kept consistently clean. If it becomes too full for his liking, he may have an accident elsewhere in the house, so his future home needs to be diligent about litter-box maintenance. Based on our experiences, we believe Spar would do best as the only pet in his new home. He has not done particularly well with either cats or dogs. While another experienced owner may eventually be able to introduce him successfully to another animal, we cannot promise that and would prefer to place him somewhere where he can comfortably be the only pet. Spar is microchipped, neutered and fully up to date on his vaccinations. He has been a healthy cat and has never required extensive veterinary care. The reason we are considering finding Spar another home has nothing to do with a lack of love for him. We got him before having children, and our family life has changed tremendously since then. We now have a 14-month-old daughter and hope to continue growing our family. We have realized that we simply cannot provide the amount of stimulation, play and attention that an energetic Bengal like Spar deserves while also raising very young children. He has been an important member of our family, so we are not looking to simply hand him off to the first interested person. We want to find someone who understands what they are getting with a Bengal and genuinely wants his big, energetic, quirky personality. The right home for Spar will appreciate an independent companion who wants to be part of everything, has plenty to say, loves to play and explore, and still wants to be close to his people, just on his own terms.
