About Bella

Bella was adopted from the Oyster Bay Animal Shelter about six months ago. She is not a bad dog, and this decision is not being made lightly. Unfortunately, we have realized that our home and family are simply not the right fit for her needs. Bella is approximately 60 pounds, very strong, muscular, energetic, and enthusiastic. She loves to play and would likely thrive in an active home, ideally with older children and possibly another dog closer to her age, size, and energy level. Because of her excitement and strength, Bella can be very intense in the way she plays and interacts. She has a tendency to jump over the back of our couch and land on whoever may be sitting there, whether that is an adult or a small child. She does not appear to be trying to hurt anyone, but because of her size and power, she has accidentally hurt people while being overly excited. Our household includes very young children and a newborn, which makes this behavior particularly difficult and concerning. We also have a senior dog, and Bella's play style is simply too rough for him. At times, she has knocked his back legs out from underneath him while trying to play. Bella has a lot of energy and strength and deserves a home where those qualities can be a better match. I believe she would do best with an active owner or family who has experience with larger, high-energy dogs, older children rather than small children, and potentially another younger dog who can comfortably keep up with her play style. Our priority is finding Bella a safe, loving, permanent home where she can thrive. We care about her and want what is best for her, but with young children, a newborn, and a senior dog in our home, we have come to the difficult realization that Bella is not the right fit for our family.
